Center for Mexican American Studies

This past Sunday (March 6th, 2011) President Robert Nelsen committed to the establishment of a
Mexican American Studies Center. This proposal includes a physical space, seed money of $ 10,000 per
year for a few years, and release time for the Director. This is a major victory in our fight for MAS @
UTPA. Dr. Nelsen supports our struggle and knows the importance of MAS for the community in the Rio
Grande Valley. This MAS Center will provide both a physical and intellectual space where new research,
scholars and community members can grow.

You can find some great article here that provide some more in depth coverage of this exciting news.
